Banana Cream Revisited

October 9, 2007

Last night, after some time to calmly reflect, I returned to the fridge and took out the slice of banana cream pie I had saved for a second-day scientific examination.  I ate some, then left it on the counter to get up to room temperature (more scientific testing) and ate some more.  If you ignored the burnt bits on the pastry shell (sigh), the pie was not yuck.  In fact, if you like banana cream pie, it’s a good version of it.  So apologies to Dorie Greenspan, she didn’t let me down.  It’s just not the “please let me have seconds and the recipe” kind of product I normally expect from myself.

Today is Canadian Thanksgiving and I’d like to say that I ate something good, but I haven’t.  I think I’ll be doing tacos tonight.  Or maybe a vegetable Thai curry.  What I have really been craving is a fiery, coconut-y lamb curry but I have told myself I can’t afford it because all my grocery money is going on pie making supplies.  It’s probably just as well I don’t have a family to feed because I can’t imagine anyone else putting up with my erratic cooking and eating habits.

In looking over recent posts I have noted that there are a lot of references to tofu.  I’m not obsessing about it, tofu just keeps coming up because I am planning a big Chinese tofu night at my place for November, mostly to indulge my vegetarian friends, and when I tell people about it we start talking about tofu.  The trickle down effect means that it then gets mentioned here.

Why was I never informed of your Blog until just minutes ago? I would have been reading it religiously.

    I love Tofu!
